Who you are hiring

David Veksler

I have worked in Bitcoin since 2013. Most of that time has been spent at the point where crypto custody fails, which is an unusually good vantage point from which to explain how to keep it from failing.

I built a cryptocurrency exchange in 2013 and never left the industry. In 2017 I started walletrecovery.info, a wallet recovery service, and have since completed more than a thousand recoveries: forgotten passwords, damaged seed phrases, dead hardware, wallet formats whose software no longer exists, and estates where the person who knew the answer has died.

In 2018 I co-founded Vellum Capital, where I am Managing Partner. Vellum provides institutional crypto-asset custody built to CCSS Level 3, using multi-signature cold storage and MPC. That is the same problem as personal self-custody with the volume turned up and the excuses removed.

From 2022 to 2024 I was Senior Software Engineering Manager at Celsius, directing 24 engineers. We launched wrapped-token assets carrying over $100 million in TVL with Chainlink Proof-of-Reserve, and during the wind-down we recovered more than $4 million in stranded creditor assets across 5 million vaults on more than 20 EVM networks. Before that I was CTO at Royalty Exchange, where in 2020 we launched the world's first Ethereum NFT platform for music royalties, which Billboard covered at the time. Earlier still I spent five years as Director of Technology at the Foundation for Economic Education.

Today I am Principal Engineer leading agentic AI engineering at Antech Diagnostics, part of Mars. The Bitcoin Consultancy is the advisory practice that runs alongside it.

Why prevention is the product

Recovery work is satisfying and it is also, mostly, avoidable. The cases that arrive at walletrecovery.info are rarely exotic. Someone never tested the backup they were relying on. Someone built a clever multi-part scheme and then forgot which part went where. Someone died and left a will that mentions Bitcoin but nothing that would let an executor reach it. Someone sent money to a platform that never existed.

Every one of those had a version where an afternoon of work beforehand would have made the loss impossible. That afternoon is much cheaper than the recovery, and unlike the recovery, it always works. So this practice sells the front half: setting it up right, designing a backup that survives you, and checking whether the thing in front of you is real before you send it anything.

Do not take my word for it

Verify me.

Impersonation is the most common attack in this industry, and the correct response to any stranger offering crypto help is to check rather than trust. Here is everything you need to check me.

  • A registered US company. Veksler Consulting LLC, Colorado Secretary of State ID 20218030311, searchable in Colorado's public business database.
  • A physical base. Denver, Colorado. In-person meetings are possible, which is not true of the people impersonating me.
  • Two other businesses with my name on them. walletrecovery.info and vellum.capital.
  • A personal site and a public professional record. davidveksler.com and LinkedIn.
  • A decade of recorded appearances. Talks, podcasts, and interviews on the media page, going back years, with my face and voice on all of them.
  • Press coverage of the recovery work. Forbes, Bitcoin.com, Ledger, and Cryptonews have covered it. The links are collected on walletrecovery.info/testimonials.
  • One email address and one phone number. [email protected] and +1 214-659-1775. Nothing else is me.

I will never contact you first.

Not on Telegram, not on WhatsApp, not in your DMs, and never as a reply to a public post about losing crypto. Every engagement I have ever had started with the client contacting me. If the first move came from the other side, it was not me.

Start with a discovery call.

Tell me what you are trying to protect and who needs to be able to reach it. The first 20 minutes are free, and you get a fixed-price quote after the call.
